Nominations Open for BASEES Nove and Blazyca Prizes

BASEES members are reminded that nominations for the Alexander Nove and George Blazyca Book Prizes are open until July 1st, 2019.

The Alexander Nove Prize was established by BASEES in March 1995 in recognition of the outstanding contribution to its field of study made by the late Alec Nove. It is offered annually by BASEES for scholarly work of high quality in Russian, Soviet and post-Soviet studies. Items eligible for nomination are singly or jointly authored monographs, and two or more related journal articles or book chapters. The authors of nominated works must at the time of nomination be members or associate members of the Association. 

For the 2019-20 cycle, the Nove Prize scheme is accepting nominations for books published in 2018. The deadline for nominations is 1 July 2019. The judges for the 2019/2020 award are Judith Pallot and Peter Waldron. The winners will be announced early in 2020 and the prize (if awarded) will be presented at the annual dinner of the 2020 conference.

BASEES has established the George Blazyca Prize in recognition of the outstanding contribution to its field of study made by the late George Blazyca.

The George Blazyca Prize is offered annually by the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies for scholarly work of high quality in East European studies. This is taken to include those countries of Eastern Europe that were formerly under communist rule that were not part of the Soviet Union. Items eligible for nomination are singly or jointly authored monographs, or two or more related journal articles or book chapters. The authors of nominated works must at the time of nomination be members or associate members of the Association.

For the 2019-20 cycle, the Blazyca Prize scheme is accepting nominations for books published in 2018. The deadline for nominations is 1 July 2019. The judges for the 2019/20 award are Anne White (tbc) and Nigel Swain. The winners will be announced early in 2020 and the prize (if awarded) will be presented at the annual dinner of the 2020 conference.
